 | I've not purchased one for several years now...last time I did I swore I'd buy another Intuit product...any inexpensive alternatives one can recommend for initial estimating and summarizing prior to final which will go to the accountant for oversight, etc.? I'm primarily needing to get reasonable estimates for final estimated tax to pay as turns out farm income and oil/gas royalties are exceding prior estimates significantly owing to unexpected price fluctuations during year...

Have you looked at the "deluxe" or "professional" at TaxACT? I saw it has a bunch of other stuff but not those specifically as I'm just self-employed.

OK, I downloaded the demo version and went through a first cut yesterday...
It works but is tedious. Best I could tell, there's no WYSWIG, just a Q&A format for data entry. Some fields have a worksheet that will take entries and compound them. Forms/Schedules seem pretty complete--at least so far I've not run into a limit. For the price, it seems quite nice...thanks for the "heads-up"/link.
I'll spend some more time today seeing if I can get to the forms themselves...been a couple of places where lack of context of the question posed leaves some doubt in my mind as to which actual piece of info is wanted so I'm not sure all are entered properly as yet...
Will serve the purpose of an initial estimator, though, I believe adequately. Unfortunately, as I feared, the bite appears as though it is going to be significant... :(

Thanks...I have downloaded the free version...if it has all the necessary schedules that should be all I need for the purpose at hand...

Try Tax Cut - Home & Business it's about $60 for the Fed version and $25 for the state. Does the same thing Turbo does but for much less money. Available same stores Turbo is sold.

Hmmm. FWIW, I just bought my State & Federal TurboTax (Deluxe version) and it was $24.99 US, after rebates, plus sales tax on pre rebate amount. The purchase was at Costco.

They could pay and I'd not take an Intuit product...well, depending on how much, of course, even I have limits... :)
