Lawmaker: Social Security a Problem, Not Crisis
By Adam Entous
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
A top Republican lawmaker on Social Security issues on Sunday called the retirement system's finances a "problem" rather than a crisis, distancing himself from the crisis terminology used by the White House in seeking public support for private accounts.
"I think 'problem' really is what we're dealing with," House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas told NBC's "Meet the Press" when asked if he agreed with the assessment of President Bush and other top administration officials that the system was in "crisis."

 | Social Security in dire CRISIS !!!!!!!!! URGENT action needed !!!!!!!! NOW !!!!!!!!! __________________________________________________________________________________
There's a rumor that there's a CRISIS in the Social Security system.
There's probably no truth in this rumor.
After 2042 or 2052, Social Security will only be able to pay approximately 75% or 80% of benefits.
Repealing the recent tax cuts on the higher income earners will take care of this eventual shortfall.
Even if the recent tax cuts were not repealed, the value of the the 75% "reduced level" would be a higher benefit level than what today's retirees receive.
