I want to allocate Drive letter B to my DVD/CD Writer/Reader. In disc
management (win2k) the letter B is not available, only D onward.
I couldn't find any useful info using google or the M$ kb.
Is there a reg change I can make to free up this letter? I can map B as a
network drive but can't seen to assign it.

I once had problem assigning B drive letter to a ZIP drive.
I end up opening the registry n do some modification onto it.

Worth a try.
I see if I can dig up the documentation I made for our KB back in the
office.

I got it from a kind soul at microdoft.public.win2000.general:
[quote]
- Run regedit.exe
- Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
- Locate DosDevices\B:
- Delete DosDevices\B: if it exists
- Rename \DosDevices\E: to DosDevices\B:
(if E: is your DVD drive)
- Reboot
[unquote]

Works a treat.

I now have A:, B: and C: (and a coupla nw drives), it appeals to my overly
anal sense of order :)
