If there was a viable >open source accounting package that handled the GST and BAS I would >change in an instant. mmmm.....quickbooks 7 was the gst release we got 3 upgrades for free to ver 7.4 which i still use without any issues at all....i have never upgraded as i have seen others paying $$$ for fancy looking upgrades that do not actually extend the useability much...mostly it just looks prettier....also the draconian activation routine really sux on the new versions.....myob on the other hand costs more time to enter data but is more flexible,,,aimed at big small business and not the micro 1 person business......
the myob invoices are much more crap than q/books and trying to change the templates in myob is a nightmare.....all in all id say quickbooks 7 out of 10 myob 5 out of 10 relloman

The first writer was correct. Having used both, Quickbooks is awkward and MYOB is easier. Not to say it's easy - just easier. Agreed - the standard templates aren't much chop.
