CALL FOR PAPERS (CfP)
Special Track on "Business Process Oriented Knowledge Infrastructures" http://www.i-know.at/BPOKI 29 June 2005, Graz, Austria
This one-day special track, which is the second in a series and takes place during I-KNOW '05 in Graz - Austria, provides an interdisciplinary forum for international scientists and practitioners to discuss aspects of integrating knowledge management efforts in organizational value-generating activities.
Background
Knowledge management initiatives in today's economy have to justify their expenses. Therefore, knowledge management has to visibly contribute to value generating activities of organizations. This urgent challenge increasingly gained recognition in industry as well as in academia during the past years. Therefore, a broad range of concepts in the domain of business process oriented knowledge management has emerged to acknowledge that fact. Many of these concepts focus on the development of knowledge infrastructures that are tightly aligned to and supportive of an organization's business- and knowledge processes. Thereby, knowledge infrastructures are considered to represent the set of all organizational activities (e.g. KM initiatives), guidelines (e.g. KM processes), agreements (e.g. KM-friendly culture) and systems (e.g. KM software) that enable the effective and efficient management of knowledge in organizations. Sucessful implementations of business process oriented knowledge management approaches in organizations are already available and motivate and fuel further research. Therefore, the challenges that emerged from these past experiences are of highest relevance for reseachers and practitioners.
These challenges include the following open questions: How can especially complex, dynamic and weakly structured business processes be supported through knowledge infrastructures? What concepts aid in dealing with the effects of changing business processes on aligned knowledge infrastructures? How can the quality of knowledge processes and -infrastructures be assessed? What are the most promising types of business processes to apply existing bpoKM approaches?
Goals
This special track aims to tackle the challenges identified above and bring together international researchers as well as practitioners to enable the exchange of current research concerning the development of business process oriented knowledge infrastructures. The special track as well provides plenty of time for networking among attendees to establish focussed, international relationships.
