Actually, I recall as a kid in the 50s reading articles in Popular Mechanics which said that we would all have just this kind of thing in the far, far distant future...1970 at the latest! I even remember sketches of what they might look like. Needless to say, the cars had long noses to accommodate the reactor shielding.
