 | Good suggestion by EC. I think democracy does not work in any country let alone India. However this may make it slightly better. Also all polls should be banned when elections are announced. Polls induce apathy. There should also be proportional represenataion and first pass system both combined as in some European countries. Money spent shoiuld be limited and scrutinised very carefully. Even then I think so called democracy may not work any where. I support polls only for municipal elections. Restt should be only indirect elections not by ordinary people who know little. Even stupid politicians know little except that they want to swindle and know how to cheat. They require no qualifications, licence etc and make a mess and walk away. How come a politician can decide the fate of the country knowing little about economics, law, ethics, culture, religions, history can do this? Even a barber in many countries needs a qualification and licence.

Ministers should quit after polls are announced, suggests EC
NEW DELHI, DHNS:
In a significant suggestion which may have wide implications if implemented, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) T S Krishnamurthy on Saturday said ministers, except two or three who hold important portfolios in each state, should resign immediately after the announcement of elections.
Mr Krishnamurthy, who was speaking at a workshop on ‘Electoral Reforms' here, said: "Perhaps the chief minister, finance minister and home minister could continue in office and all others could resign.... It would be a good convention if all parties agreed to resign when in power in order to ensure that Constitutional obligations are fulfilled during this period."
Mr Krishnamurthy called for an end to issue of advertisements containing pictures of leaders at least during election period.
Godhra report Talking to reporters later, Mr Krishnamurthy clarified reports from Patna which quoted him as saying that the Godhra report should not be discussed during elections. He said the Commission had not at any time suggested that the report should not be discussed or debated.
The Commission's clarification assumes significance in the wake of Railway Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's statement in Bihar on Friday that he would raise the content of the Godhra report during elections and the EC was free to take any action.
"We have already clearly explained that if anybody is going to communalise the report or make unruly personal attacks violating the model code of conduct, we will intervene," he said.
Asked whether his clarification meant that Mr Yadav could use the report while the BJP could not, Mr Krishnamurthy said he would not make any distinction between anyone.

As per hiduism, Democracy never works. But Budhism itself is democratic. Facist religion like hinduism should be banned.
